The Nevada County Beekeepers Association is a diverse group of professionals and hobbyist, men and women, young and old, with a keen interest in promoting the well being of honey bees and their habitat while enjoying their amazing benefits. The NCBA strives to promote education on beekeeping and agriculture by providing the latest news and techniques in these fields. 

The club members meet once a month on the first Monday at 7pm and visitors are always welcome. All meetings are held in the Veterans Memorial Building at 255 South Auburn Street, Grass Valley, CA. Entrance is off the back parking lot, in Grass Valley at 7pm.  The August meeting is always moved to the County Fair Grounds with a fair booth clean up following by a barbeque social.

President's Message - May

Rain, Rain, come and stay….my own lyrics to a rhyme that was very different that we would sing when I was growing up. I’m very grateful for this wet weather we are having now and I hope that it will continue a little longer before gearing up for the 100’s. So far, the spring build-up has been mediocre from what I am observing. We come off a good year that was last year. Things will really need to start shaping up in order for the honey year to be decent. Fingers crossed this rain is not too late for that to happen.

Bee Bits - May

As I type these words during our late-April rains, it reminds me of how our weather used to be before our prolonged drought.  We got hit by a killing frost after the grapes, figs, and Crape Myrtles had leafed out, with ugly consequences.  But all this new ground water should make for a better honey flow.
We had a nice field session a couple of weeks ago. Brooke filmed me showing how to make splits, and has now edited the videos.  I’ll soon be adding instructional videos at my website.
